Pen and Ink

This medium allows for a lot of control and captures gestures well. I love the sketchiness of pencil drawings and the depth of ink.

“Lost” 9×14 ink on mat board.

The mystery and complication of this tree inspired me to attempt to capture its essence. I enjoyed using the hashing to give the branches added personality and form.

“Reaching” 9×12 ink on mat board.

I loved the transition from large to small branches on this tree. I wanted to enhance this feeling of distance by darkening the furthest branches.

“Contemplating the Ethereal” 5X7 pencil on paper.

This portrait tells a story of fantasy and magic. I loved her pose and the solemn expression. I had a great deal of fun adding the dragonfly-esque wings.
